First of all, my head hurts. Extremely. I just want to go to bed. Nighty-night. Boy, does it hurt. But it's not a headache, no, I don't believe in those. It's just a pain in my head. That's all. It just feels like someones playing with my brain - jumping around up there, but it's no problem, it's just a pain. Headaches don't exist. That's all I have to say on that subject, moving on:
When someone buys a picture from my Etsy shop, which is always good, they get a big surprise. Really, it's a pretty big surprise. The tiny five by eleven inch, or something like that, picture that they bought arrives in a GIANT triangular box. They are going to step on their porch and be afraid: 'what the heck is that? I didn't order that? Is it alive?' It really is big. I feel really important when I walk into the post office, carrying this huge box. Maybe there's something extraordinary in that big triangle box covered in tape. Maybe its a medium-sized statue on its way to a museum. Maybe its a giant stuffed animal that's traveling to a loving six year old. Maybe it's an organ going to a patient in a far away hospital. Or maybe, just maybe, it's a small picture, about the size of my forearm, taking up not even 5% of the space in that box.
So what's the problem with this? Shipping costs (not to mention the less than pleasing appeal of a triangular cardboard box covered in packaging tape). When I first opened shop, I went onto USPS.com looking for shipping supplies. I was hoping to find some tubes, but the computer was smarter than me (first day ever), and I ended up with triangles. But wait - the really cool thing is that they were free triangles! So, if anyone is looking for some super cool triangle boxes, you know where to get them. Anyways, it costs 5 - 7 dollars to ship these triangles, and I strongly feel that that is far to expensive. Not for me, because I make the buyers pay shipping. Hehehe. But I wouldn't buy something, one single, tiny, flat item, when it's shipping was that much. So I am on the search to find a better way. And a prettier way too.
I found tubes! Finally! Mailing tubes! Ones I can mail my prints in! And the shipping cost would end up being about $2.50. Pretty nice jump from $6, huh? Plus, I checked how long it would take to ship it to Florida. All the way across the country, and it only takes 5 days. Airplanes are amazing aren't they? To be even better though, I am thinking about removing the shipping cost all together. Ideas, ideas.
When it comes to the pretty-ness factor, I want to jazz it up a little. I was thinking giant bows, like the ones on Christmas presents, only bigger. Add some glitter, some lace, some frosting and some sprinkles, and WahBAM! Just kidding. The fact that the tubes are one solid color and don't have tapes on all their edges and corners, not only because there are no edges and corners, but because I am not afraid of them falling apart, will keep them much neater looking.
Okay, I can't help myself, maybe just one bow.
I don't think I would want an organ that comes through the US Post Office...have you seen some of those mail men???
ReplyDeleteI think a bow would get hurt during mailing but I completely understand your wanting to jazz them up a bit. I can't imagine you doing art on each tube before mailing them but maybe you could do a piece specifically for the tubes, have it copied and then wrap it around them and tape it with clear packaging tape? That way they are pretty but it won't get ruined?
